Is anyone able to recommend a hairdresser in the Manchester city centre that's good for doing perms? I've currently got long straight one-length hair and I'm looking to get it loosely permed (messy wavy rather than curly), cut to around jaw length with layers and get a side fringe put in. Because I want so much doing in one go I want to make sure I go somewhere that's not going to nause it up and give me a grannytastic bubble perm with a lego fringe! I've had perms done before but not in Manchester so if anyone's able to recommend any particular salon it'd be appreciated - thanks!

Hello Loverlies,
So this is my first 'official' post on 0ctavia, and i'm incredibly excited! When i was asked by our dear
back_bones to guest blog, i nearly exploded at the computer keyboard. Having been an avid and faithful reader to 0ctavia for the past year or so, i am incredibly flattered to be contributing for the month to such an inspirational, fun, and creative collective. So.. just to tell you a little about myself:
My name is Lauren Pham and I am originally from San Marino/Pasadena, California. But I currently reside and go to school in beautiful, foresty Santa Cruz. Like all of you, I love fashion, music, film, design, interior design, and art. I am a blog addict (I currently am subscribed to over 20+ blogs on Google Reader, just to give you an idea). One day, I want to move to New York and Paris permanently, in which by that time I hope to be fluent in the French language (I'm in French 6 right now). My favorite animal is either the panda or the elephant. And I seriously believe that Will Smith in his Fresh Prince days is/was my lost soul mate.
As much as I'd like to pretend that the picture of the girl in the leaves in my intro post is me (what, with our similar taste in dressing and black hair), sadly it isn't true. Though you might all be interested to know that the photo is taken by Gia Coppola, Sofia's niece. She is apart of a photography society known as the skull set. It is as I like to put it, a more refined and art-forward Cobrasnake (no severe and 70s porno flash; though Mark and Cory Kennedy do make cameos, so be forewarned). Here are more pictures from another famous Coppola to feast your eyes on:

Winter coats.

These are beautiful, but expensive.
Where the hell do I find something that is quite trendless, classic and wool on the highstreet? (or more upmarket, but not designer!)
I am so tired of things falling apart after one winter, or just looking too worn and crap.
I am willing to pay £100 - £200 for it.
HELP.

Sorry, its one of those annoying questions...
I saw a girl today in town wearing a sleeveless shirt, in a cream/brown type colour with like a large check/tartan pattern on it. The edges of the sleeves looked a bit ruffled and it had a black bow around the waist which tied at the back...
any ideas?
Also, does anyone know where you can get Paul Smith clothes cheaper than the designer shop prices?
thanks!!

I think writing my personal statement has been long overdue since many of my friends have already finished theirs... however i'm still stuck :|
I know that if you can't start it you should forget about the intro until a later date but I hate starting essays without an introduction first! Please can someone post some tips on 'first sentences' or if possible send me their personal statement to get some ideas?
I'm hoping to study Law if that helps.
Thanks!

Okay so next Friday is the day Ive been looking forward to for about a year. The day I buy my first pair of real Uggs. But I need some advice first.
Where is the cheapest place to get them? I know everywheres pretty similar but for example, is there one shop thats doing them for £135 instead of the average £140? Every penny saved counts :)
Also realistically how long are they gonna last me?
And lastly the midlength boot... is it short enough to look good with jeans but long enough to look good with skirts?
Questions, questions, questions. And one last bit of advice before I go remember to buy the Glamour thats currently in the shops it's got loads of discounts in it for 'National Glamour Week' - Dorothy Perkins, Office and ASOS are all featured :)

Thanks!

Has anyone else graduated this summer (or, indeed, ever) and been feeling really, really unhappy since?
I just cannot seem to get into my head that come september I won't be moving out of my new 'graduate' flat (which, incidentally, I'm hating. Going from living with six people to two is not a happy transition) and back into my uni house. I desperately miss my old housemates, but more than that, I hate knowing that university and my ex-department and that whole world are all going to be going on without me whilst I try and get some kind of nine-til-five nightmare. (I think that's the other problem, I've still not got a job, so all summer has been spent using up my savings and sitting around worrying.)
Surely it's not just me?

Hello everyone!
I'm looking for a biggish bag to use for uni, and I quite like the look of some of the ones on the high street. However, I was wondering how durable they are, so can anyone tell me from experience which shops to avoid and which ones are good? I've never really gone looking for this kind of thing before, so I'd appreciate any advice.
Thanks in advance :)

Hello ladies (and gents)! I hope it's ok to ask this, i was just wondering if anybody knew of anywhere online that sells interesting / funny giftwrap and birthday cards?
It's for a male friend of mine and i really want to make the entire thing as unique and amusing as possible. I saw a card in urban outfitters when i was in Manchester the other day, which said "You know you're old when all your friends stink of piss" but stupidly didn't buy it! Something in a crude, similar vein would be excellent!!
I don't care if it's a bit on the expensive side, i just want something special! Oh, and it absolutely has to be a UK company too, as his birthday is next week :)
Thanks in advance!
